"The word may mean 'rest,' but in the hands of Verdi, conflict dominates the Requiem. To close its Winter Festival of Italian music, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra could hardly have chosen a more powerful work than Verdi’s Requiem—or a more ceremonious return for conductor laureate Neeme Järvi, who led three performances over the weekend."

It was a thrill to perform under the baton of Neeme Jarvi once again during the conclusion of the NJSO's Winter Italian Festival. It was an honor for me to be entrusted to control the dynamic contrasts of the bass drum part in Verdi's Requiem through his guidance. Maestro Jarvi was kind enough to include me in a shared ovation with the NJSO, the wonderful soloists, and the Montclair State University Chorale and Choral Director. An NJSO moment to cherish!
