  Post-Concert Press:

March 19, 2011 The Star-Ledger; “Spain, by way of New Jersey”

“Outside the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts in Morristown on Thursday night, shamrocks reigned, with a crowd decked out in green streaming from the nearest bar. But inside … [with] 'The Best of Spanish Flair,' the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra played a globetrotting program of music, with works from the United States, Latin America, France and Russia—each distinctive, but with the vivid rhythms and sensuality often associated with the music of Spain never far away.”

  MUSICIAN INSIGHT
  Christopher Stingle, trumpet

"The Best of Spanish Flair concert was truly a memorable program. From the excellent repertoire selections to Tom Wilkins' rapport with the audience and orchestra, the mood was set from beginning to end. Especially moving was the beautiful Rodrigo guitar concerto. This piece, which was previously unknown to me, is now a new favorite."

  UPCOMING CONCERTS

MARC-ANDRÉ HAMELIN RETURNS
March 24–27
Lauded as a performer “whose abilities defy the imagination,” pianist Marc-André Hamelin stars in Mozart’s lively Concert Rondo and Strauss’ witty Burleske. A northern sun warms the snowy landscapes of Sibelius’ First Symphony.

TASTE OF NEW JERSEY: Join us for a special wine tasting event before the concert on March 26!

TCHAIKOVSKY VIOLIN CONCERTO
April 7–10
Master melodists: Barber’s First Symphony is filled with lines that linger, while Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto soars on passionate themes. Haitian-American composer Daniel Bernard Roumain is a bright light on the current scene; this composition was co-commisioned by the NJSO and the Sphinx Organization.

MAHLER 3
May 20–22
Mahler sought to capture the essence of nature in his towering Symphony No. 3, composed during summers in his mountain retreat. From the flowers of the meadow to the majesty of the heavens, a universe of feeling and experience awaits.
